Science Europe has published a policy paper called “Open Science As Part of a Well-Functioning Research System” which presents three commitments to enable open science to progress further in Europe and worldwide.

Science Europe uses its members’ policies and achievements as the basis to define a more comprehensive direction and role for the years to come. Continuing to open up science is planned through the following framework actions:

  • promoting better policy alignment throughout Europe to encourage open science and facilitate basic and applied research across disciplinary, geographical and other boundaries;
  • raising awareness and advocating in favour of open science to policy makers and society as a whole regarding the importance, urgency and added value of the transition to open science with particular focus on equity;
  • contributing to legislation, European policies and funding mechanisms that shape the research landscape.
