Model contracts for public publishing in an open science context

The working group had made two model contracts for periodicals available in July and is now adding a model contract for collective works. All three of these contracts are also available in English.

These models are freely adaptable and are distributed under a CC0 licence. They are part of the context of open science and, depending on the model selected, make it possible to provide support for the transition to Plan S principles and the obligation for researchers to deposit in open archives or define a non-exclusive transfer contract in accordance with open science principles.

Public publishers required standard copyright assignment contracts adapted to their form of publishing and this was made more pressing by the law for a digital Republic and France’s commitment to the policy of open access to scientific publications.

The group is made up of members of the Médici professional public scientific publishing network, members of the Committee for Open Science’s (CoSO) “Open Scientific Publishing” working group and Aedres, the French Association of Research and Higher Education Publishers.

The three models – in French and English and in different formats – and a presentation thereof can be accessed on the Ouvrirlascience.fr site.
