The indexing of French journals is monitored in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
Mir@bel works on sharing information on journals and their access in online databases. This network of institutions was set up in response to the need for information on online journals, particularly in French. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is the main directory of open access journals worldwide.
Mir@bel publishes graphs on the corpus of French journals listed in the DOAJ in the framework of an initiative working on enhancing the visibility of French open-access journals. This page is updated daily and contains around ten charts for users to track changes in the presence of journals published in France within the DOAJ and to characterise these.
The graphs illustrate several aspects of the corpus giving details on:
- the journals’ business models (with a predominance of the open access model without publication fees),
- the journals’ distribution by dissemination platforms and editorial structures,
- language policies and accepted publication languages,
- distribution by major subject areas,
- the journals’ presence in other databases and directories.
The page is intended to help document changes over time in the publishing practices of French journals in the DOAJ. The data provided gives an overview of these journals and encourages other open-access journals to apply for inclusion in the DOAJ.
The publication of this page is part of the ongoing work carried out by the Mir@bel2022 consortium made up of 14 stakeholders from the publishing and indexing ecosystem. In the framework of the Mir@bel2022 project funded by the National Fund for Open Science (2022–2025), a working partnership has been established with the DOAJ to enhance understanding of the criteria, support applications and enhance the quality of metadata related to French journals. This partnership has also facilitated outreach and awareness-raising activities for French-speaking communities.
