Second meeting of the National Fund for the growing community of Open Science grant winners
The second meeting of the winners of grants resulting from the National Fund for Open Science’s (FNSO) calls for projects on open scientific publishing brought together around 70 participants on September 24th and 25th last year at the Condorcet Campus’s conference centre in Aubervilliers, on the outskirts of Paris.
Similarly to the first meeting in September 2023, the aim was to bolster the open scientific publishing community by bringing the leaders of the winning projects together. The event was attended by people from different backgrounds (publishers, researchers, platform managers) but with similar or complementary interests, common challenges and successes to share.

This meeting was also an opportunity to present the national open science policy and promote collaboration opportunities and the pooling of requirements and initiatives. It also provided an opportunity to observe the evolution of the French scientific publishing landscape.
Pierre-Paul Zalio, the president of the Condorcet Campus, opened the first day devoted to plenary sessions. After a presentation of the activities of the FNSO Scientific Interest Group (GIS) and an overview of the state of scientific publishing in France, participants were given an insight into Dutch policy on supporting open science with the actions of Open Science NL, and a preview of the results of UNESCO’s global consultation on Diamond open access. The day ended with a presentation of the European Diamond Capacity Hub initiative that was launched at the start of the year.
The second day was devoted to two sessions of six workshops on different scientific publishing aspects. There were small group discussions on topics like: AI opportunities in 2025, editorial innovation, the interoperability of distribution platforms, international visibility, scientific publishing techniques and tools, and economic open access distribution models.
This meeting highlighted the interconnectedness of scientific publishing professions and the interest of its community of professionals in making science more accessible.
