Constructing bibliodiversity project group
With its eight recommendations, it claims that advances towards open science necessarily require support for the diversity of actors in scientific publishing – aka bibliodiversity – at all stages of the publishing workflow. This implies in particular the coexistence of various business models and excludes the domination of a single model. But time has come to work on the practical implementation of bibliodiversity and to take into account the diverse cultural and publishing practices prevailing among researchers, disciplines, institutions and countries. This can only happen at a European and international scale.
The creation of a project group entitled “Building Bibliodiversity” within the Committee for Open Science and directly under the responsibility and permanent monitoring of the Publications and International Colleges meets these two objectives. It will take advantage from the wealth of skills gathered within these two colleges and the committee as a whole, but also from the contribution of external expertise.
The duration of the mission of this project group is nine months and it will submit a final report on its work together with a shorter document of recommendations. This report will be presented during a CoSO Tech session with proposals for communication with the institutions and researchers. A bimonthly progress report will be made to the CoSOTech and the two colleges.
Jacques Lafait is a physicist. He has directed the Laboratoire d’Optique des Solides (Solid State Optics Laboratory) at University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) as well as the CNRS Multidisciplinary Research Network ‘Couleur et Matériaux à Effets Visuels’ (Colour and Materials with Visual Effects). He has mainly carried out research into the applications of nanomaterials for solar energy and colour.
In 2009, he became involved in what is now known as ‘open science’ and for 8 years was the documentation and libraries project leader under the authority of the President of the UPMC. He was made a CNRS emeritus research director in 2010, took part in drafting the Law for a Digital Republic in the framework of the Digital Scientific Library (BSN 4 and 7) and was the coordinator of the Jussieu Call. He was involved in founding the Committee for Open Science and was a member of its Permanent Secretariat (SPSO). He was a co-pilot of the Building Bibliodiversity project-group which is part of the Committee’s Publications College. This group notably produced Exemplarity Criteria for publications and platforms used for National Open Science Fund (FNSO) calls for projects.
Jean-François Lutz, curator of libraries, is responsible for the “digital library” of the University of Lorraine.
As a member of Couperin’s professional office from 2006 to 2012, he was the initiator and moderator of the working group on open archives and was the OpenAIRE project manager for France. From 2008 to 2014 he was a member of the SPARC Europe board.
He is currently a member of the Scientific Publishing Monitoring Committee responsible for monitoring and evaluating the plan to support scientific publishing, as well as conducting studies.
